BC Hydro Coordination:
An EVE Specialty
May 23, 2021

As a contractor, it is always our goal to remove workload from the general contractor and place it on ourself. There are many examples of how we do this throughout a project, but the biggest one is our efforts in BC Hydro (BCH) coordination.

To start, EVE takes the BC Hydro design gathered by the general contractor (GC) and reviews it for errors or inconsistencies. We ensure everything about the proposed design is functional.

Second, we contact the civil contractor and coordinate with them for the install.

Once the building is tied-in, we perform our interior scope. We prepare the electrical room and send pictures to the BC Hydro designer.

We alert the GC that we are ready for our BCH inspection. Once the inspection is complete and all deficiencies are addressed, it is BCH’s responsibility to run power into the building.

Following this, there is a collection of documents which must be completed and sent back to BCH. Finally, the GC can energize the building, and remove the temp power they’ve been paying for. The faster the building is energized, the more money the GC can save on temp power costs, i.e. generators, diesel, string lights, etc.

Our goal is for the GC to be involved with this scope in only two ways: confirming with BC Hydro EVE's work is approved, and paying BCH charges. We welcome the GC reaching out to us to confirm where we are at any time in the process.
