Canada’s Forerunner in Electric Vehicle Charging
Over the past five years, we have seen significant increases in interest towards electric vehicles. The results of this have led to many social and economic impacts. Examples being: the explosion of Tesla stock, every car manufacturer but Dodge announcing future EV options (F150 "Lightning"), and even Volkswagen changing its name to “Voltswagen”. This is driven by a heavy corporate focus on ESG (Environtal, Social, and Cultural Governance). ESG refers to the three central factors in measuring the sustainability and societal impact of an investment in a company or business. Analysis of these criteria is thought by some to help to better determine the future financial performance of companies. Here at EVE our goal is to be up to date on these trends, especially when they relate heavily to our industry.
The forerunner for electric vehicle charging in BC is “FLO”. We met with a FLO representative to find out why and learn more about the system. Below are a couple key points we learned in this meeting:
- FLO is a Canadian company and their products are made in Canada. We love supporting Canadian businesses, and love to see them become industry leaders like in this case.
- FLO has the largest network in the country. A common concern with EV is the range. With FLO’s app, you can take advantage of this network and use the app to plan out your trips, confidently traveling from one station to the next.
- Versatility. Your charging station is accessible via the app by a single user, or by multiple users if you wish. The usage is all tracked with their energy management system and charged through the app.
- Level 2 charging. FLO is a Level 2 charging platform. Compared to charging your car off a standard outlet (Level 1 charging), FLO chargers will charge your car five times faster.
Although not everyone owns an electric vehicle yet, we appreciate that FLO’s mission is to accelerate electric vehicle adoption by offering the best charging experience to its customers.
We have seen a rapid increase in both interest and ownership in the last year, and believe this will only increase in a parabolic manner. Because of this, Eastern Valley Electric is determined to be knowledgeable on all things EV and continue to be ahead of the industry curve.
